Lack of reliable power supply is one of the biggest barriers to the development and prosperity of rural, tribal and urban slums. In these areas, people rely on kerosene lamps for their lighting needs, but this is unhealthy, hazardous, polluting and expensive. A study conducted in September 2015 indicates that 96% of villages in India are electrified, but only 69% of homes have an electric connection. About 26.5% of rural households and 3.2% of urban households in India continue to depend on kerosene for their lighting needs. Street lighting is a much neglected area and a large portion of rural and urban India remains dark and unsafe. Think Peace is committed to alleviate the living conditions of the people living in such regions and empower them to pursue personal, social and economic security.

Through the TRIG Program, Think Peace has provided Solar Home Lighting Systems to 53 Tribal Hamlets with no electricity directly benefiting tribal families. The villagers have been trained in repair and maintenance work for the lights.
